The Craig Building refurbishment
ClientAustralian National University (ANU)
LocationANU Campus, Acton
The Craig Building at the ANU is home to the University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS). At the time that the refurbishment was commissioned, the building was 23 years old and had not previously been upgraded to any significant extent.
The fabric of the Craig building was acknowledged to require extensive work, however, the primary impetus for the refurbishment sprang from an immediate and pressing need to provide cutting edge laboratory facilities to support two eminent solar energy researchers.
The fitout design included a slab to slab demolition of existing fitout and services with the freed space to be reconfigured to meet changed requirements. This included office and breakout spaces, and specialised Laboratory fitout was undertaken on levels 1 and 3 primarily to accommodate the Solar Thermal and Materials Engineering Groups involved in researching Solar Power advancements. The laboratories were each specified to be multi-purpose in order to cater for a variety of research projects, each requiring different environments and setups.
