Charity Bowling Day
Since 2006, Shaw Building Group has held an annual Charity Bowling Day to support carers throughout the ACT and region – 2019 was our fourteenth year.
With the generous support of our industry colleagues, we cracked the $1-million raised for Carers ACT. To date we have so far raised a total of $1,068,972!
- 2006 = $28,540
- 2007 = $37,450
- 2008 = $51,468
- 2009 = $62,556
- 2010 = $64,309
- 2011 = $65,103
- 2012 = $71,990
- 2013 = $79,931
- 2014 = $82,630
- 2015 = $121,250
- 2016 = $103,816
- 2017 = $94,544
- 2018 = $107,621
- 2019 = $95,074
All money raised goes directly to Carers ACT to help fund respite for families in Canberra who shoulder the burden of full time care of a family member. One of the areas the money goes to providing them with a short break that Carers ACT organises.
As well as the short break, funds also have been used to assist carers in various ways, for example:
- Shaw Work & Care Scholarships (worth $5,000 each):
Awarded nine carers with scholarships that are giving them the opportunity to gain a trade certificate or diploma that will lead to paid employment.
- Young Carer Assistance:
- Nine Young Carers were supported to attend their school formal.
- A cooking workshop was conducted for Young Carers.
- A Junior First Aid course for Young Carers.
- Carers ACT 25th birthday party.
The 2019 Bowling Day was held on Thursday, 7 March. The event was a great success with over 150 participants.
