$121,000 raised at the 10th charity bowls day for Carers ACT

On Thursday 5 March, Shaw Building Group held it’s annual charity Bowls Day, to support Carers ACT and raise money for local carers. This year heralded the 10th anniversary and over 200 people joined in the bowling fun and auction at Tuggeranong Vikings. With bellies full of barbequed steak and sausage sandwiches, the festivities were kicked off with a group photo before local teams got into the friendly lawn bowls competition.

Managing director, Valdis Luks couldn’t be more pleased with the day. “ The weather was perfect and the Vikings’ hospitality and support was greatly appreciated – the venue was excellent,” he said.

“ The Shaw team worked tirelessly to pull the whole day together and it was well worth the effort. We had a target for our 10th anniversary to raise $100,000 and on final count we exceeded this by raising $121,000.”

Dee McGrath, CEO Carers ACT was equally delighted with this year’s event, saying, “Carers ACT is overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the Shaw Building Group and its many, many supporters in raising more than $120,000 in this year’s Annual Bowling Fundraising Event. These much needed funds will enable us to provide support to caring families in need across the ACT. These funds will go a long way to enable us to support carers, the people they care for and support the many caring families who struggle with financial, health and social issues. Thank you Shaw Building Group and the construction industry supporters – your support will make a difference where it’s really needed.”

A 10th anniversary cake was also prepared by the team from the Branch Out Café and presented by Carers ACT, in recognition of their support and ongoing commitment to the organisation.
